Below are some basic instructions for setting up a register for communications with V7. These steps should only be completed by a certified cash register dealer. In order to set up communications, dealers must first program the register to allow communications, connect the register to the PC, and configure the software. Below are instructions on programming the register and cabling information to help dealers connect the register to the PC. (Note: The 1595 only supports TCP/IP communications.)
For 1595 LAN* Communications Setup refer to your 1595 Programming Manual Critical Pages: Page 6-173 (Submode 68) Set the IP Address of the PC that is being used for communications. Page 4-6 (Submode 77) In-line ID and LAN Network Setting *LAN - Local Area Network. A network of devices (computers, printers, hubs) occupying a small area. Usually LANs do not span more than one building. For example: The PC/Poll office has a LAN for our development workstations, severs, and printers. We can also put 1595's on our LAN and communicate with them from our workstations.
For 1595 WAN* Communications setup consult your Network Professional.
1595 Setup is similar to LAN communications setup (see above).
Router Setup will require port forwarding (aka "Virtual Server") and/or port triggering in order to communicate with the register. Consult your router manufacturer or Network Professional for more information on configuring your router. (Note: When setting up WAN communications, the site with the register must have a static IP address.)
*WAN - (Wide Area Network) -- Any internet or network that covers an area larger than a single building or campus. For example: Communicating with a 1595 in a store from an office across town or even in another city.
To connect the 1595 register to the PC, dealers can use one of the following:
A hub connecting the PC and register
A network connection on an existing network
A router with a static IP address
To set up the software, follow the steps below:
